San Francisco, Cal. Red cds (SAF-260) with matching straight line "Paid" and "40" rate handstamps, on folded letter to Quebec, Canada East datelined "Humboldt Bay California, Misquitoville, 12 December 1850", red "Montreal, L.C., Fe 13, 1851" cds and manuscript "1/3" rate, receiving backstamp, lengthy 7-page enclosure with fascinating content including a brutal Indian attack…After killing him with arrows…they smashed in his skull & literally almost cut him to pieces with his own axe, he had seventeen marks of the edge of the axe on his body & legs, he was nearly made mince meat of, F.-V.F.
