U.S. Postal History: California Express Covers - Wharton's to Whiting

Lot 631

Whiting & Co.'s Feather River Express. Printed frank (Haller FW12, Ty. 2, printed at slight angle) on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to "Meekers Flat, North Fork Feather River" conjunctive use with blue "Everts, Wilson & Co.'s Express Marysville" circular handstamp, trivial edge wear, Very Fine and rare.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

An unusual conjunctive usage because both company's served the same area, according to Nathan "Everts and Whiting were close friends and so Whiting made arrangements to turn over his express business on the Quincy to Marysville part of the route." -- this may be an example of that route sharing.

Realized: $325
