Express Covers, 1853-1890. Group of 25 legal sized covers, Eastern & Western companies, including two "American Express Company" illustrated envelopes, with orange money package labels from Mineral Point, Wis., & La Salle, Ill., another American Express with orange Columbus, O., label; "Howard Express Co". money envelope Allentown, Pa. to Chattangooga, Tenn., 3 attempts refused, said to be scarce Reconstruction express company use; four United States Express Co.including illustrated red money envelope from Akron to West Salem, O.; and three with green lables (Cincinnati, Ohio & 2 La Salle, Ill.) all probably money envelopes; the balance are Wells, Fargo & Co. franks on post office entires, including 15¢ orange cancelled "Iowa Hill", 12¢ with New York cancel to San Francisco, several 6¢ Nesbitts and other entires with San Jose, Belmont, Pioche, Nev., Red Bluffs, Truckee, Port Costa, Placerville, Camptonville, Yreka, San Francisco, etc. mostly oval WF cancels; condition mixed on many, still worth careful evaluation (no photo).
