Hawaii, San Francisco, Cal., Nov 3, 1862. Clear cds with matching "Ship 5" rate handstamp on privately carried cover from Honolulu to San Francisco, carried aboard the ship Young Hector departing Oct. 15 and arriving Nov. 1, manuscript "J.O. Dominis, Recd. Nov. 3d, 1862" docketing; cover with light staining at bottom edge of cover, Very Fine, an interesting cover from John Owens Dominis who was the secretary and chamberlain for King Kamehameha IV and recently had married Princess Liliuokalani on September 16, 1862.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The collect rate on inbound mail to San Francisco had been dropped from 6¢ to 5¢ early in 1862 to match the internal rate in California.
