Ocean Line?s "Hermann" Final Round Trip. Two covers; Final Outbound Voyage, Entire dated "San Francisco 19 avril 1857" addressed to Bordeaux and prepaid the newly introduced (1st April) rate of 15 cents. Routed on the Golden Age on 20th April arriving Panama 4th May, Carried by the Granada from Aspinwall arriving New York 15th May to be put onto the Hermann on the following day. Dropped at Southampton on 30th May for transfer to France. Reverse bears Paris - Bordeaux transfer for 2nd June with arrival Bordeaux the next day.Final Homebound Voyage, 1857 Envelope originating in Marseille and routed via Lyon and Paris to Calais. Transferred to Southampton. Franked with France 1860, 80c rose, strip of four (nick in left stamp) with red New York, Paid, Jun 30 exchange and Am. Service in box postmarks; light cover wear, otherwise Very Fine.
