On the 31st May 1866 the "City of Washington" left New York for Queenstown and Liverpool. On the 2nd April she lost her propeller and continued under sale. On the 12th April she lost her rudder and shortly after her passengers, and it would seem the Irish mails were taken off by the "Propontis".
