Confederacy, 1861, 5¢ green, tied by one of two strikes faint Raleigh, N.C. cds on underpaid cover to Gainesville Ala., clear "Due/5" handstamp, F.-V.F., The 5¢ letter rate was for mail traveling a distance of no more than 500 miles. Gainesville was about 700 miles from Raleigh and the rate should have been 10¢. Scott No. 1 Estimate $200 - 300.
