Jun. 12, 1856" cds on buff cover to Portsmouth N.H., manuscript. "From R. K. Swift" endorsement at bottom left and addressed in his hand; cover with partial backflap and minor edge wear, Very Fine, a remarkable sound example of the 3¢ Chicago perf on cover; with 2009 P.F. certificate.

This cover was sent to the postmaster in Portsmouth N.H. by R. K. Swift, the banker and businessman who promoted the perforating machine invented by Dr. Hadley in Chicago.
