1853 (Sep. 6) Vigo, Spain to Kingston, Mass., folded letter with "Vigo, SP 10 1853" origin d.s., letter carried by P&O Steamer Iberia to Southampton, reverse with red London (9.15) transit and manuscript "2/2" postage due comprising (52¢) packet fee to G.B. plus 8d (16¢) transatlantic fee, carried by Cunard Line America from Liverpool Sep. 17 to Boston arriving Oct. 1, "Boston Br. Pkt. Oct 1" exchange cds with manuscript "73" due rating (68¢ plus 5¢ U.S. inland); some minor edge toning, F.-V.F., the only recorded example of 73¢ British mail rate from Spain to U.S.
