(San Francisco) 1906 Berlin To San Francisco Earthquake Postcard, said to be the earliest card with the notation " burned 101 JM" written in pencil below the address; it was posted in Berlin on April 20, 1906, just 2 days after the earthquake; sent to general delivery on May 26, before being "Advertised / June 2, 1906 / San Francisco, Cal., Due 1¢" faintly struck on card in magenta; and other markings "Zuruck" and non-reclame handstamp and received "USA/DEAD LETTER OFFICE June 2" triangle indicating impossible mail delivery following the earthquake; contents of message asking about well-being of addressee.
