Collection, 1795-1803, collection mounted on exhibit pages of 18 items including 1795 Philadelphia to Washington, 1796 Philadelphia to Washington containing a summons service for John Nicholson who was a land speculator (had 6,000 lot in D.C.) partnered with Richard Morris who both ended up in debtors prison, 1799 first town datestamp use, 1801 Abraham Bradley Jr. free frank and ALS as Asst. PMG (fold toning), 1800 Samuel Dexter ALS as Sec. of War in Wash., two 1800 Oliver Wolcott free franks as Sec. of Treasury, 1800 and 1801 John W. Steele free frank as Comptroller of Treasury, 1801 Henry Dearborn free frank as Secretary of War, 1801 William Simmons free frank as War Dept. Accountant's Office, also includes 1830s cover front with Sir George Cockburn free frank (he was the co-commander of the British forces that sacked Washington in 1814), 1871 Washington National monument booklet, etc., F.-V.F.
