Confederacy, Galveston Tex Sep 1, cds on circa 1861 forwarded cover, "Macon, Geo. Aug 13" origin cds and matching two strikes of "Paid" and "10" rating handstamps (CSA type) to original destination of Galveston, then forwarded to Richmond Va., reduced slightly at edges, couple small, F.-V.F. appearance, An unusual usage that crossed the Mississippi River twice, ex-Powell.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

There was no extra charge of postage for the forwarded of first-class mail, when transmitted from the office of address to a different office. This 'forwarded' practice had its roots in the 1857 U.S. postal regulation and was continued by the CSA.
