Confederacy, Lancaster Tex Mar 10, bold strike of cds and matching sharp "Paid" oval handstamp (CSA type A) on 1861 orange cover to Paris, Texas, original enclosed letter accompanies, docketed at left; reduced slightly at right, F.-V.F., This is the listing illustration example in the new CSA catalog., ex-Bleuler.

Texas had only just joined the Confederacy on March 6th, four days prior to the mailing of this letter. The postmaster may have been unsure of whether his U.S. postage was still valid for use and only handstamped the "paid" marking.
