Henry Crenshaw Rice was a graduate of Hampden Sidney College and enlisted on September 17, 1862 at Buffalo County Va. as a private in Company B of the Virginia 14th Cavalry. He re-enlisted on March 1, 1864 and was paroled on April 11, 1865 at Farmville Va.
