Confederacy, Goodson (Va.), clear strike of postmark with date removed on orange soldier's cover addressed to Wm. Brown Sr. at Independence Va., manuscript "Due 10" rating, soldier's endorsement "R.G. Brown, Capt. Co. C 8' Va. Cav." at top left, small opening flaw at bottom, Very Fine, One of only two recorded soldier's letter with the Goodson straightline, ex-Haas; signed by Brian Green, P. Kaufman.

On Sept. 18th 1863, Union General Stoneman attacked the town of Goodson and burned the post office to the ground. The postmaster produced a new woodcut straightline postmark that is found in three states: with "SEPT" date, with "OCT" date, and final state with month designation removed.
