Confederacy, [Railroad] "Houston, April", manuscript postmark canceled 1862, 5¢ blue horizontal pair, faulty, on circa 1863 orange cover addressed to Judge Danl D. Avery, Care of Col Wm. Sharp at Chenango Station, Houston Tap & Brazoria RR, readdressed and forwarded to Brenham Tex. "via Houston Tx" with matching "Ford 20" cent due rating, bearing additional 1862, 5¢ blue pair pasted over other pair and tied by "Houston, Jun" cds, docketed "Oyster Creek. June 9th"; some cover restoration, F.-V.F. appearance.
Scott No. 4 pair, 7 pair    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

THE ONLY RECORDED CONFEDERATE TEXAS COVER FORWARDED BY ALTERNATE RAILROAD MAIL ROUTE.

This cover was forwarded by alternate railroad route rather than direct stage route. Mailed for delivery to Houston Tap and Brazoria Railroad's Chenango Station that had no recorded post office. Forwarded to Brenham, Tx. via Houston along established rail lines.
