Chew, C.C." signature as Chief Clerk on "U.S. Consulate for France and Algeria, Paris" imprint cover from Consul General John Meredith Read, Jr. to Philadelphia Pa., with "J.M. Read Jr." signature at top right and sent by diplomatic pouch to Washington D.C. where free franked by Chew and blue "Department of State" handstamp struck, entered mails with "Washington D.C. 'Free' Feb 5" cds, blue Paris Consulate flap cachet, Philadelphia Feb. 6th arrival backstamp, 1872 docketing at bottom; cover tear and part of flap missing, F.-V.F., ex-Richard Graham Collection.
