(Restored Rate) 1849 (Jan. 22) New York N.Y. To Cognac, France, blue folded letter prepaid only 5¢ to Boston, carried by Cunard Line America from Boston Jan. 24th to Liverpool arriving Feb. 4th, red London (2.5) transit backstamp with matching "Colonies, &c.Art.13" accountancy marking, red Boulogne (2.6) entry cds, Cognac (2.8) arrival backstamp with manuscript "19" decimes due rating for 9 dec. internal postage plus 10 dec. GB fee, Very Fine, Note that there were only three Eastbound sailings from the United States to England during the Restored Rate Period, so that examples of letters sent to France via this route are very uncommon.
