Dec 10" cds and matching "Paid" handstamp with red manuscript "25" rating, bearing 1857, 1¢ blue and 24¢ gray lilac, tied by grid cancels, red "N.York 'Paid' Brem. Pkt. Jan 16" exchange cds with red manuscript "22" credit, blue Hamburg (2.4) transit backstamp, "Franco" straightline with red crayon "2" sgr. credit to Denmark; some light perf toning, Very Fine. A REMARKABLE USE BEARING THE 1¢ AND 24¢ 1857 ISSUE PREPAYING THE 25¢ BREMEN-HAMBURG RATE TO DENMARK.
There is another example from this same correspondence to Burg dated May 31, 1861 bearing the 1857, 1¢, 10¢ and 24¢ prepaid at the 35¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate.
