Sta., Buffalo, N.Y., Jul 9 1901, clear strike of rubber duplex (Rim #2) with bars cancels 1¢ postal card (UX14) to New York City, additional Pan-American Station (7.23) machine cancel at bottom (B01-07A), card forwarded to Saratoga Springs with New York City (7.24) machine cancel, Very Fine.
Bomar No. B01-02 unlisted    Estimate $750 - 1,000.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE PAN.-AM. STA. RUBBER DUPLEX WITH RIM #2, THE ONLY EXAMPLE RECORDED FROM JULY 23RD.

This is an example of the the second B01-02 device used at the Pan American Expo and is not currently listed in Bomar. Because of the ongoing deterioration of the original B01-02 marking, on two days during the expo, Jul. 23 and Sep. 11, this back up device was put into service while the primary device underwent repairs. There is one example recorded used on 7/23 and two examples used on Sep. 11th. The dating still shows the warped and swollen characteristics of Rim #1 because there was only one set of day/date/year inserts, but apparently two devices. After the second repair attempt on Rim #1 failed, both devices were retired and replaced with B01-01. This research has been documented in an article by John Cunningham, John Moore & Peter Miselis.
