1860, 30¢ orange, rich color, used with 5¢ brown, type II, nat. s.e. showing left guideline, and 10¢ green (35), all tied by three strikes of vivid red NYFM circular grids and matching "New York 'Paid 36' Jan 16" exchange cds on 1861 blue folded letter from the Payen correspondence to Lyon, France, carried by Cunard Line Australasian from New York Jan. 16th to Queenstown arriving Jun. 26th, Calais Br. Service (1.28.61) entry cds, reverse with "Paris a Lyon" (1.28) and Lyon arrival cds, Extremely Fine and choice.

A REMARKABLE THREE-COLOR 1857 ISSUE FRANKING FROM THE PAYEN CORRESPONCE TO FRANCE.

This was the maiden return voyage of the Cunard Line Australasian from New York Jan. 16th to Queenstown arriving Jun. 26th. It was prepaid 45¢ for the triple rate of ¾-1 ounces with 36¢ credit (3x 12¢) to Great Britain.
