1860 (Jun. 30) New York N.Y. to Sydney, New South Wales, cover in care of U.S. Consul bearing 3¢ dull red (26) and 10¢ green, type V (35) strip of three, nat. s.e. at left, all tied by red NYFM circular grid cancels, red "New-York Am. Pkt. Jun 30" exchange backstamp and magenta "12" credit rating, carried by Vanderbilt Line Illinois from New York Jun. 30th to Southampton arriving Jul. 13th, red London Paid (7.14) transit cds, "Ship Letter, Sydney, SP13 1860" rimless arrival backstamp; some 10¢ strip affected by edge placement including right stamp faulty, still Very Fine appearing, a scarce 1857 issue use to New South Wales.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Prepaid for the 33¢ British Mail rate via Southampton effective January 1, 1857 to December 31, 1867. The 12¢ credit to Great Britain was for 12¢ British transit, the U.S. retained 21¢ for 5¢ U.S. postage plus 16¢ transatlantic packet.
