1902, 1¢ Black on Buff, the "Full-Face McKinley" Production Specimen, uncancelled and without preprinted address, addressed in blue pen to "Charles Merwin, "The Franklin" 14th St, Washington D.C." with message datelined "Chevy Chase Md., May 9" and signed by Katherine Dawson; trivial lower right corner bend, otherwise fresh and Very Fine. This Full-Face McKinley card was written by Katharine Dawson, wife of Clarence Dawson, the Private Secretary to Postmaster General Charles Emory Smith on May 9, 1902 to her cousin Mrs. Charles Merwin in the Franklin Apartments. This was apparently written without her husband's knowledge and never mailed.
