(Mississippi) Columbus, Mi. Oct. "26", bold strike of sunburst postmark with manuscript dating and matching "Paid 18¾" cent rating on folded letter datelined "Mayhew C.N. 23 Oct. 1826" to Natchez Miss.; edge flaws reinforced, Fine a wonderful strike.

ONE OF ONLY ABOUT 6 RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS FANCY SUNBURST POSTMARK.

This marking is known used Sept. 1826 to 1828. The letter from Reverend Cyrus Kingsbury concerned banking transactions. He was a missionary to the Choctaws and the father of the "Choctaw Intelligence" editor J.P. Kingsbury. The Choctaw Indians were being removed from the area at this time.
