Hawaii, 1878, 6¢ bluish green, tied by target patent cancel on 1881 cover with monogram backflap and showing purple "Honolulu, H.I., Paid All, Aug 1, 1881" cds (235.32, R2) to Liverpool, England, used in combination with U.S. 5¢ blue (179), rich color, tied by bold San Francisco cross-roads cancel, "San Francisco Cal., St. Shp. Aug 8" transit backstamp, red "Paid Liverpool US Packet" (8.27.81) arrival cds; 5¢ slightly affected by edge placement, Very Fine and attractive combination use to Great Britain.

The mixed franking prepays the 6¢ Hawaiian treaty rate to the U.S. and 5¢ UPU rate to England via the United States. Hawaii did not join the UPU until Jan. 1, 1882.
