(Retaliatory Rates) 1848 (Jul. 17) Munster, Prussia to New York N.Y., folded letter with "Munster, 18 / 7" origin cds with magenta "15/16" zoll loft weight note at top left (approx. 13.6 grams) and matching "fr 14¼" rating updated to "21¾", Aachen oval "P." handstamp, Belgian manuscript "1-10" credit to G.B., red London "Paid" and Liverpool (7.22) transits, missed the America and held for Cunard Line Acadia departing Liverpool Jul. 29th to Boston arriving Aug. 13th, red "Boston Ms., Ship, Aug 14" cds with matching "29" cent retaliatory rating handstamp for 24¢ transatlantic packet plus 5¢ inland postage, fresh and Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The transit fee through Belgium was based on 7½ grams for a single letter while Prussian and British single letter rates were based on 1 loth and ½ ounce, or 15 grams each. Therefore, this letter required one Prussian rate, two Belgian rates and one British rate.The letter was prepaid 21sbr 9pf.
