Confederacy, (Flag) 7-Star Flag, red and blue allover patriotic design on cover to Carlisle, Kentucky, franked with U.S. 1857, 3¢ dull red (restored upper right corner) tied by target handstamp, matching "Owensboro, Ky., Jul 9, 1861" cds, Very Fine appearance, ex-MacBride. C.S.A. Catalog No. F7-2A.

Both Carlisle and Owensboro were pro-Southern towns and several post office in this region of Kentucky were closed in August of 1861 due to suspected disloyalty of their postmasters. They were later reopened in September when General Grant moved from Illinois into Kentucky.
