Sacramento City, Cal., Mar 31, large serifed cds (type 1) in red and large "40" rate handstamp in matching red on folded letter to New York City, "Recd. May 6 /51" pencil docket, letter is headed "Sac City March 31st 1851" and is from a man to his parents back home, letter (1 page) reports "I have but a moment before the mail closes… I have concluded a bargain for a ranch situated about 12 miles below this city on the banks of the Sacramento [River]. I shall probably own and work it in connection with two other parties… three men were shot last night about 9 o'clock attempting to commit a burglary, one killed instantly and two wounded", minor edge wear, Very Fine.
