San Francisco 1906 Earthquake, cover without postage endorsed "San Francisco Fire" at top right and cancelled by "San Francisco, Cal., Apr 28, 1906" duplex to Vancouver, Wash., with original datelined letter with excellent content including "…I was down in what was once the city of San Francisco yesterday and all that is left is a pile of brick and stone and twisted iron and mortar. You can't tell one street from another and it makes one's heart sick to look at the terrible wreck…"; some light aging and flap torn, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The San Francisco earthquake hit at 5:12AM on April 18th, 1906. The Post Office survived the quake and allowed mail to be sent postage free to help expedite news from the now devastated city.
