(New York - Savannah Route) 1849 (Jan. 23) New York N.Y. to New Orleans La., gray folded letter endorsed "p Cherokee" at bottom left, carried by Mitchell Line Cherokee from New York Jan. 24th to Savannah arriving Jan. 27th, entered mails with red "Savannah Ga. '10' Jan 28" integral-due cds and "Steam Boat" straightline, interesting letter reads in part: "People are really beginning to feel restless under these California accounts. Griswolds are now sending another of their fine Chinamen, the Helena & Delano his beautiful Chinaman the Memnon. The number of ships gone and going is alarming, so far as respects the chances of moving produce from New Orleans at low freights for the rest of the season so had better bear this in mind.", The gold rush demand for ships for the California Argonauts was being felt., Very Fine, ex-Wierenga.

"Cherokee" started operating on the New York-Savannah route on October 3, 1848 until purchased by Howland and Aspinwall.
