(Slavery Related) (Pre-Civil War Slavery Tensions) "Morristown Mo, Jan 15 1861", manuscript postmark on 3¢ red (U10) buff entire to Monticello S.C., original letter datelined "Missouri January 12th Cass Country 1861" with excellent slavery content "I will live in the hopes I will see all of you again if the abolitionists of the territory don't hang all us out here. Next fall if I live I will go back to take a man ever time if I can and hang him. I was out there in the territory last wekk. Six of them took after me. They could not catch me. Two of the six got back to tell they saw me. I plan to stay here a while I can find an abolitionist to shoot…I am going to the territory tomorrow to pay some of them a untimely visit. I may get back and I may not. My horse is swift and my gun is sure…"; entire with some edge wear and minor stain, Very Fine with excellent content showing the turbulent times.
