(San Joaquin) Liberty, Cal., Apr 12th, 61, manuscript postmark (SAJ-1250, R5) on embossed ladies' cover to Sacramento, franked with manuscript canceled 1857 3¢ dull red, Very Fine, a rare short-lived postmark.

Liberty was an important stage route between Stockton and Sacramento. The end of the town came as a result of the Central Pacific Railroad establishing Galt as a stop.
