Mexico - 1856-1861 Hidalgo Issues

Lot 2570

Mexico, 1856, First Issue, 8r red lilac, defaced reproduction plate, copper engraved printing plate showing a single very similar image of 1856-61, 8 reales issues, with M.E.P.S.I. certificate stating that it is of unknown origin and not the original government plate as it differs from the original stamp, this plate does not appear to be the one used for common reprints or known forgeries, so maybe it was produced for printing catalogs, albums or for training engravers, design shows a crossing line at center, includes two recent prints in black from the plate, Very Fine, a very unusual item that would be an interesting and eye-catching addition to a specialized collection or exhibit; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
Scott No. 5R    Estimate $750 - 1,000.
