1851, 1¢ blue, type Ia, position 100L4, margins large to just clear at top and just shaving scroll at upper left, wide interpane margin at right, clearly showing full scroll design at bottom, beautiful deep rich color, tied by light "Springfield, Mass., Jun 18" cds on fresh 1857 printed insolvency notice, to Chatham N.Y. and forwarded to Hillsdale N.Y., Very Fine and choice, ex-"Lake Shore"; with 1997 P.F. certificate.

A MAGNIFICENT SHEET MARGIN EXAMPLE OF THE 1851, 1¢ TYPE IA FROM POSITION 100L4 ON COVER.

Produced only from 18 of the 20 subjects in the bottom row of both panes of Plate 4, the 1¢ imperforate, type Ia owes it's rarity to the short three month period that the Plate 4 imperforates where produced.
