1857, 3¢ pale etruscan red, type III, position 56L15, showing double frame line at right, well centered amid wide margins with portion of adjacent stamp at top, rich true color, canceled by light grid handstamp on cover to Clinton, Mass., with matching "Granby, Mas., Apr 30" balloon type cds; cover reduced at left, Very Fine, signed "pale Etruscan red" by W.F. Amonette on reverse; with 2010 P.F. certificate.

BELIEVED TO BE THE FINEST KNOWN ON COVER EXAMPLE OF THE 1857 3¢ ETRUSCAN RED SHADE.

In the 2008 W. Wilson Hulme II Collection sale (R.A. Siegel), a untied manuscript canceled example on an advertising cover brought $4,250.
