Confederacy, Jefferson Davis Medallion, blue medallion only patriotic design with verse split at top and bottom of design, on cover to Dahlonega, Ga., partial "Columbus, Ky., Aug 8" cds with matching "Paid" in oval handstamp and "10" rate below, with manuscript "missent & ford" notation and "Danburg, Ga., 11th Nov." postmark; some light soiling, Very Fine, illustrated in Wishnietsky Confederate Patriotic Covers and Their Usages (page 124), ex-Gallagher.

AN EXTREMELY RARE CONFEDERATE OCCUPIED KENTUCKY USAGE OF THIS JEFFERSON DAVIS MEDALLION PATRIOTIC DESIGN AND VERSE.

Only a handful of examples are known of the Jefferson Davis "Medallion Only" patriotic design. We known of only two examples bearing this split verse with the other being a handcarried usage.
