1847 (Jul. 10) Philadelphia Pa. to Hannover, Germany, folded letter datelined July 10th with endorsed "New York, Bremen Steamer" at top, instead carried by sailing ship to Bremen, boxed "See Brief." (Vanderlinden 2554, scarcity 6) and "America/über Bremen" handstamps, Bremen (9.23) transit backstamp and red crayon "5" grote due rating (1 11/12), Hanover added 2ggr domestic for red ms. "3 11/12" ggr final due rating, Very Fine, ex-Boettger.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Ocean Line
Washington made its maiden voyage on June 1st 1847. This letter was intended for its August voyage, which was postponed for mechanical reasons. This letter was sent by private sailing ship as a result.
