1856 (Sep. 21) New Orleans La. to Feldkirch, Austria, blue folded printed circular with company "Printed Circular" framed handstamp at top right and bearing 1¢ blue (7) horizontal pair, pos. 18-19L2, huge margins to in at bottom incl. significant portion of adjoining stamps at top, tied by "New Orleans La, Sep 21" cds, carried by Cunard Line Asia from New York Oct. 1st to Liverpool arriving Oct. 13th, red Calais (10.14) transit cds, "Feldkirch/17. Oct." two-line arrival backstamp and neat ms. "3" krCM due rating, Very Fine.

Most British Open Mail circulars to Germany went via France, which had extensive conventions with the German States. In the GAPU, the Austrian kreuzer Convention Mii.nze equaled the south German kreuzer. In 1855, the UK and France replaced accounting for individual pieces of printed matter with bulk accounting handstamps.
