"curiosity" in margin, front of stamp slightly dry print and with fancy four-petal cancel; bottom right corner faulty with hinge reinforcement, Fine appearance, a great Bank Note Issue rarity.Scott No. 147a $17,500.
ONE OF ONLY FOUR RECORDED OF THE 3¢ 1870 NATIONAL BANK NOTE ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN PRINTED ON BOTH SIDES.
The printed on both sides variety was probably occurred when a sheet was printed without proper moistening, producing dry prints. Engraved stamps printed on both sides usually have a poor impression on one side and a second, complete impression on the other. The upper part of the reverse impression shows very light dry printing. As in this case, the sheet was turned 180 degrees before being put on the press a second time, so the the two impressions are inverted in relation to each other.
