Hawaii, 1883, $1 rose red, each showing the different types of Opium Duty cancels, including small Maltese Cross, large Maltese in purple not joined, black Maltese joined and the purple "A. S. Cleghorn" signature handstamp, some with usual minor soiling, F.-V.F.Scott No. 49 Estimate $750 - 1,000.
Cleghorn was the Postmaster General from May 1, 1887 to April 15, 1893 and was married to Princess Likelike. These stamps often show some staining caused by opium which leaked from the tin containers.
