(Town & County) Gasquet, Del Norte Co., Cal., Jun 30, 1884 (Del Norte), bold oval serrated date stamp (DEL-210) on manuscript canceled 1883, 2¢ red entire to Santa Barbara; slight reduction at right, otherwise Very Fine, the only recorded example of the first Gasquet postmark. Estimate $150 - 200.
Named for Horace Gasquet, who settled here in the 1850's. He was the first postmaster and operated a stage coach stop.
