(New York) New-York, May 18, remarkably clear strike of red "clamshell" datestamp and manuscript "12½" rating on 1798 folded cover to Suffield Conn., docketing on back extends to address panel, slightly worn file fold, still Extremely Fine and choice, ex-Hahn. Estimate $400 - 600.
The New York "Clamshell" marking is much scarcer in red and seldom clearly struck. According to Siegel, Cal Hahn noted this was the "3rd best red strike recorded" and he surely was in a position to know.
