Steamer Kate Kearney, red octagonal handstamp on blue folded letter datelined "St. Louis July 19th 1851" to Alexandria Mo., care notation at left and receipt docketing at top; some fold toning, F.-V.F. and rare, This is the Milgram listing example..
Milgram No. 745    Estimate $500 - 750.

The "Kate Kearney" was owned by the St. Louis & Keokuk Packet Company and ran the 4832 contract route from St. Louis to Galena (shortened in Sept. 1852 to terminate at Keokuk). The letter states "I concluded you would not get an answer by telegraph any sooner than by the Kate this evening".
