1871 (Jan. 25) Paris to Lisieux, folded Gazette des Absents No28 postmarked rare "Paris, La Gare D'Ivry, 25 Janv. 71" Inter-Suburban double circle postmark, the franking has floated off and some cover damage due to water immersion, backstamped "Lisieux, 22 Feb. 71" arrival postmark, Fine. Estimate $1,500 - 2,000.
CARRIED ON THE ILL FATED FLIGHT OF THE RICHARD WALLACE WHICH WAS LOST AT SEA OFF ARCACHON. ONE OF THE RAREST OF ALL BALLOON FLIGHTS.
The balloon crashed in the ocean with some mail which washed up at La Tremblade, Ars-en-Ré and La Rochelle with frankings floated off.
