Garotte, Cal. (Tuolumne). 3 covers to 2nd Garrote (First Garrote is Groveland and 2nd Garrote is 2 miles away) to Jason Chamberlain, John Chaffie and to both of them, these two fellows were the real life story that Bret Hart's "Tennessee's Partner" is based on, Garrote #2 didn't ever have a post office and even cover to it are rare, one has a very nice New York steamship to Pacific Coast handstamp tying a Type II 10¢ 1857, F.-V.F.

Apr 9, 1863 postmark (Williams SON-2680) on 1861 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Vallejo City, Cal. with bold strike of fancy "Flag with Union", cover crudely repaired, which would benefit greatly from professional restoration, Fine, one of the finest examples of this rare and popular patriotic cancel.
