Steam Acapulco. Very clear oval on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, Cal, 1866 pencil docketing at left, canceled by "San Francisco, Cal., Dec 13" cds (Williams SAF-600) with cogwheel killer, again a correct rating with "Due 7" handstamp; cover with light fold at right edge and some staining, a Very Fine strike.

Lot 133    

Steam Manzanillo. Full strike of oval handstamp with May 6, 1865 double cds of San Francisco, Cal. (Williams SAF-600) on incoming cover from Colima, Mexico, correct double rate of 20¢ with manuscript blue crayon "20" due marking, bold oval Colima origin postmark (Colima is approximately 50 miles inland from the port of Manzanillo), reverse with matching "3" reales rate handstamp; cover with rebacked edge wear, Fine, still a choice strike of this rare steamship route marking.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

Steam Mazatlan. Mostly clear strike of oval handstamp with "San Francisco, Cal., May 16, 1865" cds (Williams SAF-600) on folded letter sheet, matching "10" rate due handstamp; some cover edge wear including a tear at bottom, Fine, ex Jessup.

Steam Mazatlan. Light discernible strike of oval handstamp on mourning cover to San Francisco, Mexico 10c black single tied by "Mazatlan, 15 Feb, 1875" cds, "San Francisco, Cal., Mar 11" receiving cds (Williams SAF-600), "3" due handstamp with "Advertised" and "Not Found" in circle handstamps, reverse with 8-line "address to street no." directive handstamp, "San Francisco, Cal., Advertised, Mar 22" and blue "Dead Letter Office, May 12, 1875" cds's, Very Fine, a very later usage of this steamship marking and a rare unclaimed usage originating from Mazatlan.

Via Tehuantepec. Manuscript route endorsement on cover to Nachez, Mississippi, franked with 1857, 10¢ green, type III & tied by central strike of "San Francisco, Cal., Dec 20, 1858" cds (SAF-540); cover with expertly restored reduction at left and some edge wear, Very Fine appearance, a rare route operating only between Oct 1, 1858 and Sept 27, 1859 handling very little mail, letters for carriage over the route had to have the routing endorsement.
