The Dahlonega Mint struck gold dollars, quarter eagles, three dollar pieces, and half eagles, but mintages of the latter were for most dates greater than the other three denominations combined. 1858 was no exception, since 15,362 half eagles were struck compared to only 3,477 gold dollars. (PCGS Pop. 18 in AU-50, only 72 graded higher, the highest grade being two MS-65 examples. Total of 113 in all grades, 9/27/11).
