1869, 1¢ Buff, tied by rim of partial "San Francisco Cal." cds and quartered cork cancel, originally mailed short paid with only 1¢ buff for the 2¢ local rate and "The Young Men's Christian Association, of San Francisco, find this letter in the Postoffice without a proper stamp, and prepay the postage to save it from the Dead Letter Office at Washington" good Samaritan label affixed on reverse; reduced slightly at left with small edge tear and opened for display, Very Fine.
Scott No. 112 + 113    Estimate $400 - 600.

It is interesting that the YMCA affixed a 2¢ brown as the letter was only short paid 1¢.

1869, 1¢ Buff, tied by split cork cancel duplexed with sharp strike of "Chicago Ill. Jan 28" cds on 2¢ black on orange entire (U56) to Kaukana, Wis., Very Fine and choice combination usage.

June 26" cds, neat "Steam Panama" oval handstamp also ties 1¢, manuscript "Due" with blue "10" crayon; few faults incl. 6¢ stamp affected from opening with straight edge at right, overall wear, Fine and very unusual mixed issue franking., ex-Landau.

1869, 6¢ Ultramarine, tied by cork cancel on cover to London, England, matching "Lewiston Me. May 13" cds adjacent, scarce red "Portland Me. 'Paid' May 13" exchange cds, London Paid May 24 arrival cds, forward to Bagneres-de-Bigorre, France with Great Britain 1865, 4p vermilion, pl. 11 horizontal pair, tied by London (5.24) duplex datestamp and oval grid, sent back to London, an array of transit markings on reverse including J. S. Morgan & Co. forwarder's blue oval backstamp, Extremely Fine, ex-Juhring, Coulter; with 2006 P.F. certificate.

A COLORFUL AND RARE COMBINATION OF UNITED STATES AND GREAT BRITAIN STAMPS TO PAY THE 6¢ TREATY RATE AND 8D BRITISH RATE TO FRANCE. A PARTICULARLY RARE PORTLAND PACKET USE BEARING THE 1869 ISSUE.

This cover was exchange by Portland and sent to Quebec. It was carried by Allan Line Prussian from Quebec May 14 to Liverpool arriving May 24.
