Lot 2004 /

8¢ Columbian, printed on both sides, block of 4, o.g., hinge remnant at top, never hinged at bottom, clear impressions on reverse, bright color, F.-V.F., a rare variety and the Only Known Multiple of This Variety, due to the controversy of whether it is a true error, it is being offered on its own merits; with 1978 P.F. certificate stating "printed on both sides…it is a genuine variety".
Scott No. 236 var.    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

This is the only multiple available of this variety discovered on one sheet in the 1970's. It has been argued by some that the impression on the reverse is a secondary or right reading offset while others believe it must be a true printed on both sides variety.
