(Clatsop) Astoria, Ogn., Dec 23, balloon cds (Whittlesey 3, R A) on 1855 10¢ green Nesbitt entire to "Cadet John Adair" at West Point in New York, "1857" dockets and some doodles, slightly reduced at left, F.-V.F., the addressee was presumably a son of Astoria pioneer "General" John Adair.

Group.

(Douglas) Oakland, Or., Jul 20, balloon cds in blue (Whittlesey 3, R 5) on small stampless cover with hand-painted Civil War patriotic flag design, to Olympia Washington Territory with pencil "Paid 3" rate marking, manuscript "Missent" and Portland transit postmark, corner wear and corner repair at upper left, accompanied by a letter datelined "Mar 10th 1861, Washington Co., Ogn." from a woman to a man that is presumably original to this cover, content features an emphatic rejection of the man's marriage proposal, Fine and unusual.
